Early this year, one professional gave me her dissertation to read through and make corrections, if need be. I don’t like reading dissertations because most of the ones I’ve read are riddled with grammatical nauseating errors, including some doctoral papers. To give her the benefits of a doubt, I picked it up to look at the first two pages. I usually do that in order to make a decision whether or not it’s worth reading. My God, it was worth the read. She wrote in such a flawless way that I advised her to go into lecturing. In spite of my praise for her work, she didn’t believe in herself. A fortnight ago, I saw her filling out a job application form, and I asked what role it was, and the position. According to her, it was one step above her current position, and so, I encouraged her to go…

I was once a student – I am still a student, and will ever be, because I learn always and from everything I see. In my opinion, everyone is a student because one way or the other, we all learn or are supposed to learn. Learning isn’t only confined to the classroom – life itself is a teacher – only babies don’t realise that, but unfortunately, some so called adults are actually babies. The way they make their decisions, and the way they take actions coupled with their reactions to stimuli is pathetically penultimate to jejune mentality. Without further ado, let me dive straight into what makes a bad student. 1. A bad student hates the teacher: you may not like the subject, but never hate the teacher even if there are multiple reasons to. I must be honest, some teachers don’t deserve being liked for so many different reasons,…

This morning, I was reminiscing – thinking about my childhood – how I grew up, and the people that were around me. I thought of them and the results they combed out of life. As I pondered, I matched their outcomes side by side their successes, and only a few passed the test. I began to question their characters and the decisions and indecisions they made. I question characters when people don’t take advantage of the opportunities around them, and what people don’t see as opportunities, I do see. It was not an opportunity to be born poor, but to me, it triggers the anger not to remain poor – the trigger is an opportunity. It’s not an opportunity to grow up in an environment where there isn’t a provision of a basic, quality education, but to me, it instigates a hatred for ignorance – the hatred is an opportunity. It was…

The easiest way to describe a goal is to use football as illustration. In a football game, there are goal posts, which are the target points, and there’s a ball. The drive of everyone on the pitch is to kick that ball into the net – the moment the ball goes into that net; a goal is scored. No matter how much ball possessions you have, or how much attempt you make on target, if the ball doesn’t go into the net, you do not score – no goal is achieved. To score a goal, there are five steps to follow – these are five steps to success in life. These steps can basically be applied in all hemispheres of life. Talent Angela Duckworth of the University of Pennsylvania says: “Talent—when I use the word, I mean it as the rate at which you get better with effort. The rate…

Michelle Obama said, ‘When girls are educated, their countries become stronger and more prosperous.’ There has been significant progress in girls’ education, but still, not every girl is able to be educated especially more in LICs, which is upsetting. A child’s education is vital as it gives them the knowledge and skills they require. These are reasons why a girl should be educated: 1. It Furthers Educated Generations: By sending a girl to school, she is more likely to send her children to school. An African proverb says, ‘If you educate a man, you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a nation.’ 2. It Narrows Pay Gap and Increases Chance of Entering the Workforce:Christina Taylor says ‘Girls’ education is about so much more than knowledge. By ensuring a girl has equal access to education, employment and adequate healthcare, the benefits will pass on to her children, community…

How to Become a Better Writer What I consider a good writing isn’t when it is loaded with too many grammatical words that an English teacher would find difficult to understand, talk less, an ordinary person in the street. If it is easy to understand, and the right feedbacks obtained, to me, it becomes a super writing. For that reason, when I do articles, I prefer to use simple terminologies, so that everyone who reads them will get the messages in a very express way. This brings me to my first point – Keep it Simple When I read a write-up, be it a report, article, or a social media post, I want to see if any other person can read it and make sense of it. When a writer or the author begins to continuously use words that require constant dictionary searches, it puts me off. In writing, you…

I woke up around 0200, 27 December 2018, and had just one thing in mind, “What New Year Message should I send to those who follow my blog, or what sort of article should I write, without necessarily repeating what I have done in the past?” After pondering for a while, I came to my usual conviction that a message of success never changes its skeletal formation-it may wear a different skin colour, but the principles remain the same. With this in mind, I decided to give what is needful, though it may end up with the same intention. I am a man with a deep pondering heart. Those who see me from the surface only know the comedian in me. Others who look a little bit below my skin see the anger in me, because sometimes, I am ferocious, but those who live with me understand how I do…

Understanding the Need for Change Management Simply speaking, a fishnet is a net for catching fish. They are made from either polyethylene (resins) or nylon; polyethylene and nylon are chemicals. Polyethylenes are easily molded and are resistant to other chemicals. They can be repeatedly softened and hardened by heating and cooling, and are used for many purposes, such as making containers, tubes, and packaging. Nylon is very strong and elastic, and can be formed into fibers, sheets, or bristles. It is used to make fabrics, plastics, and molded products. Based on their material make, fishnets are classified into high density polyethylene (HDPE),  nylon monofilament, and nylon multifilament. They are transparent, invisible in water, have low drag and abrasion resistance, and high tensile strength, which means that they can be stretched and drawn out – being drawn out means they are ductile, and being ductile is the ability to be made into wire or…

Moving from Words to Tangibility At first, I thought it was a disadvantage, but until my eyes started getting larger, I didn’t know that one of man’s greatest privileges is to start life from the scratch. When those born with diamonds on the souls of their feet rant, I look beyond the glittering of man’s hardest substance – I look beyond the treasures measured by man’s covetous vision. When I was little, I heard stories, which weren’t favourable about me. I heard of rejections, abandonment. Because I know that life begins with a cell, I didn’t feel pained to build my life from where it was dropped inside rubbles. I am not angry. I am not offended. I am only grateful that I was given the opportunity to live, even if my life started from the scratch. There are lots of children without genealogy – their history was stolen from…

I am a man of passion, and sometimes, my passion makes me cross many boundaries. “I see you have a great talent. If you eschew laziness, you’ll make a better person. Stop this silly indolence, and do something with your enviable life.” That was all I said. It was me seeing what he couldn’t see in himself that made me use those words – for I thought that by being a bit harsh, I could pull him out of idleness and make him run with purpose and vision. I was wrong! Instead, he sorted out “laziness” and “indolence” from my statement, and today, he no longer talks to me. So many times as I grew from an “old baby” to a “middle-age man,” I have made mistakes of assuming that everyone wants to grow beyond where they are, and become better, but different occurrences, as they unfold have made me,…
