Arsene Wenger said, ‘When you look at people who are successful, you will find that they aren’t the people who are motivated, but have consistency in their motivation.’ Consistency is power, and it is what inspires success. Without consistency, every dream will die at birth stage. Those who climbed Mount Everest, didn’t do it without pains – they succeeded because despite the agony, consistency made them reach the summit. The industry bests didn’t attain their goals without the power of consistency. The great champions emerged and ruled in their chosen fields because they were consistent. You can’t achieve anything, you can’t become anything, you can’t reach any enviable height without consistency. I am not excited by your dream – I am excited by your consistency. I don’t respect your flamboyance – I respect your consistency. I am not impressed by your persuasive speech – I am impressed by your consistency.…

In 2010, I really came to understand the importance of knowing your purpose in life. Not like I didn’t previously understand, but when I talk about knowing, I am talking about coming to that consciousness and dawning of a new day – it was like a seal was opened, and I suddenly became aware that there was something I should be doing, which I haven’t been doing, and that thing is my life’s purpose. It was that dawn that gave birth to my writing, inspirational public speaking and motivational blogging. Since that day, I have never looked back. I am one believer who thinks that everyone was made for a reason, just like every product on the shop shelf was developed with the intent to solve a certain problem. A detergent for instance, was made to keep fabrics clean, and if it doesn’t, its purpose is defeated. It will be…

Blogging For Beginners In my previous article, I wrote about 20 Reasons to Start a Blog, and as a follow up, like I promised, I will, in this article be talking about ‘What you Need to Start a Blog.’ Even if you know why you want to start , if you don’t have the implements or instruments to start, the knowledge of the reasons to start will take you nowhere. If I tell you the reasons to start without telling you the substances that will make up the blog, I haven’t actually empowered you. Take a look at the following things you need. What You Need to START A BLOG 1. A Niche:  Without finding your niche, you can’t start a blog. You must decide your area of interest, which is your passion. Your passion is what will be your driving force, and you need that driving force to be your source…

Some days ago,  before putting this article together, I told someone to visit my blog to read a certain article, and then, she asked, ‘What’s a blog?’ In my myopic mind, I thought every literate person in this digital age understands what a blog is, but I was wrong. So, in this little piece of write-up, I am not going to give any technical definition of a blog – I am going to define it exactly the way I see it. A blog is a website containing a personal journal which reflects your area of interest – areas of interest differ for different people. For instance, some people’s area of interest is photography, so they blog about photography. For people like me, it is leadership motivation and personal development, and that’s what I blog about. So, a blog is about expressing your opinions, concerns, passion, talent, or interest in whatever field…

What  does it mean to go above and beyond? Sometime in the past, I admired people who could do certain things, especially in exhibiting keenness, skills and talent. I always thought that people who showed excellence in what they did were extraordinary people or super humans. Because of that, in my heart, I would worship them and enthrone them like deities for being more than humans. But when I began to understand life better, I realised that ordinary people who make up their minds to focus on their little talents, skills or even ideas with the totality of their hearts are those who stand out. It doesn’t matter where you were born. It doesn’t matter what colour of skin you reflect. It doesn’t matter what accent you speak with. If you decide with all determination to push yourself out of the ghetto, out of obscurity, out of the bottom of…

Recently, I had appointments with African diplomats from different nations of the continent in London – I had a period of two weeks to attend to most of those appointments. And because the information was not communicated to me on time, my business card wasn’t ready, as it was a new role for me – the design was ready but the hard copies weren’t because they weren’t yet printed. The situation made me panic a bit because I know the relevance of business cards in such high profile appointments, and I also know how irresponsible you might be deemed to be if you are unable, before or after the meetings to hand over your business card. In recognition of this, I made concerted efforts to make sure I print the business cards even if it was almost impossible. On my first appointment, the business cards weren’t ready, and when I…

You may have noticed many times that when cooking, the steam from the pot burns your skin harder than boiling water. The reason is because the energy of the steam is higher than that of boiling water. If the pots were humans, imagine how much pains they have to endure because they’ve been covered with lids in order to cook something. Pots may not be humans, but in figurative terms, some humans are pots. How? When someone hurts you, and you refuse to forgive, you are producing a steam within. Unfortunately, because your inside is covered up, the steam does no one else harm but you. The only solution to your problem is to uncover; exhale! If you don’t exhale, you will be cooking yourself within, and not too long, your internal organs will start showing you the impact of bottling someone. Then, you’ll become worse than those who hurt…

No one will buy a theoretical product because it is only in the imaginary world. I can’t buy a dream; you can’t buy a dream. If the computer was a dream, it will not sell on the shop floor. If cars were dreams, they won’t be driven on any road. If ships were dreams, they won’t sail on the sea. There is a time to stop dreaming and start acting.  One beautiful HEART is far greater than a million beautiful BODIES. You must feed your dream until it has enough cash to feed itself. You must push your dream until it has enough momentum to push itself. You must drive your dream until it has enough fuel to drive itself. If you think mere dreaming will trigger success, you haven’t come to the consciousness, how much it costs to live your dream. Prove you have a tomorrow by defying all…

You can have success against all odds. Your excuse will take you nowhere. Your frustrations against the odds of life will take you nowhere. Let me tell you; life owes you nothing. Your biggest debtor is YOU. You are a debtor to your dream, and if you can’t pay back what you owe, you can’t live your dream. So, wake up from your sleep, stop dreaming and start working. Yes, great dreams do come true, but you must be willing and ready to fight the odds. The odds will give you no chance. The probability of winning may be less than zero. Average minds will condemn you for ever having a go at something they consider to be practically impossible to achieve. But what you should realize is that the story gets more interesting when the odds are against you. The odd was against one of the greatest men that ever…

Not all bad is bad – some bad could be signposts to good. We make hasty conclusions when certain things happen, so we moan and complain bitterly until we run ourselves into unnecessary depression – even if for real, no depression is necessary. I have learned a few things in life, and one of them is the realization of when change is about to happen. And for this, I am able to weather certain storms and sail through the turbulence, although shaky, until I finally emerge into safe haven. Mind you, I haven’t said it’s easy to sail, and I haven’t also said you never feel the pains when you are harassed by a mountain of challenges. What I am saying is that certain challenges aren’t problems – they are examination questions requiring the right answers needed to take you from your current status to the next level. If you…

1. “Prioritize your assignments, even if the whole world rest on your shoulders; take it one by one” Scale of preference produces order. Order brings peace. Peace is a great achiever. The world is full of responsibilities. Every responsibility appears very important, even if some of them actually aren’t. As a man wakes up in the morning, he’s inundated with too many tasks and deadlines. Some of these deadlines can make you dead if you don’t know how to prioritize. Prioritization arranges your responsibilities in order of importance, so that you can work on assignments that matter most, before heading for those that matter least. Prioritization will take burdens off your shoulders; live a life of priorities. In family, business, profession, academics, and your calling, live a life of priorities. 2.”You don’t need to do a big thing to prove your worth. Your value is written in your small fruit” Everyone…

A goal is an expectation based on purposeful planning, strategies, tactics, feedback and reviews, and actions taken. In a simple term, it is what you want to achieve within a certain period of time, and what you will do to achieve it or how you will go about achieving it. If you have no goal, don’t expect any result or outcome. Those without goals don’t fail because there isn’t an index of evaluation – it is those that have set goals but didn’t achieve their expectations that are considered to have failed to reach their visions – the reality is that those who set no goals are failures. If you enter a year without a foresight of what you want to receive or attain at the end of that year, there wasn’t actually a point making it into that year – this may be harsh, but it’s a fact. On…

The benefits of Self-awareness If you are a star but only focus on your dark side of life, you will blend with the night, and be lost in the night. The only stars that give light in the night are those that know that they have the power to shine. The power you are unaware of cannot make you anything, or bring you anything. I have met a lot of people with unbelievable level of intelligence, but one thing that most of them lacked is knowing who they are. Let me quickly point out that intelligence is nothing if there isn’t self-awareness. Self-awareness isn’t arrogance; it is the ability to know your originality so that you won’t feel inferior when you encounter other people’s personalities. No matter how high anyone you meet might be, being conversant with your identity will give you an element of positive ego, so that you…

In my first article for 2018, I advised my readers and followers to position themselves for success, and in it, I mentioned that anyone that does not set goals is set to fail, and anyone that does, without a committed effort to make it work is also doomed to fail. After publishing the article, I felt a need to emphasise the importance of finding your lane for success in 2018. I know that life is a marathon, not a sprint, and before someone swiftly points out that in marathons, you don’t need to run in lanes, let me quickly do this explanation – all the partitioned lanes in a marathon form a single lane if the race is taking place in a stadium – and if it’s a road marathon, the roads form the lane. So you see, in a marathon, there’s a lane; if you run outside the lane,…

Towards the end of every year, sensible minded people and those that haven’t given up on their dreams and to life, begin to review their achievements of the previous year – in this case, the achievements of 2017. As they peep into the year, or as they pay detailed attention to the happenings of 2017, they are able to pin down where they succeeded and where they appear to have failed, and with their analysis, make projections for the new year 2018. It isn’t enough to make projections or plans for a successful 2018, but rather, it would be absolutely more helpful to position yourself for a successful 2018. What does it mean to position yourself? I will use a simple illustration to explain this. If for instance, an engineering company advertises for a job vacancy in which they need the services of an accountant, it will only take a…

How to stop procrastinating A new year has begun, so to say, and a lot of people, if not all, have started setting goals on their expectations for the year. In the yore, so many people have done similar things without doing anything to make it happen. Why did they not make it happen? One major reason is PROCRASTINATION. They always said they would do it, but never did it because they always delayed doing it, until they became too weak, too busy, too lazy, and too disinterested to do it – this is most people’s problems because they don’t know how to overcome procrastination and laziness. They want to do something but don’t ever get to do it. They know how to achieve certain milestones but never take a single step into what they know how to do. They can plan but never execute. They can dream but never…

I can’t recall once in my life, ever running out of positive beliefs – I can’t remember ever running out of dreams. If there was something I had in multiples, it was the ability to keep seeing life change for the better. Many times, even as a child, I would dream of living in the best houses, driving the best cars, having the best family, and being the chief executive officer of the biggest corporations on earth. So, when I meet people that are deficient in dreaming big, I wonder why having a dream is a big deal. But the sad thing is from childhood to old age, many people dream until dream becomes nightmare. The stage of nightmare is the stage of sudden realisation that dream can be doom when nothing is done to make it real. When some man realises at an irreversible age that to succeed, dreaming…

Change starts with you If you’ve been waiting to get that job, project, assignment, or objective achieved – and what you’ve been reliant upon is the day you will get inspired, I am sorry to disappoint you, it may never be done, because inspiration never comes from the point of zero. What do I mean by the point of zero? The point of zero is the level at which nothing has been done or started. At this point, it is only deliberate efforts that will move you from your horizontal position up your linear curve. Inspiration only builds up when your physical energy and your mental willingness agree to a momentum. Nothing will get you out of bed to type the first page except you make efforts to get up. Nothing will help you get on the desk, switch on the computer and start searching for information except you make…

The term ‘template leadership’ is my own connotation, and I came to that conclusion based on my different direct observations of people in leadership positions, what I have read in newspapers and magazines, and seen or heard on broadcast media, or trends on social media. Wherever I have noticed template leadership, it just follows the same pattern independent of where you find it, who applies it, or who designs it. To understand fully what I mean by template leadership, I will first explain what template is. I got this definition from TechTarget website, and it says, ‘A template is a form, mould, or pattern used as a guide to making something, and examples are ruler when used to draw a straight line, a document in which the standard opening and closing parts are already filled that you can copy and then fill in the variable parts, etc.’ In other words,…

Usually, I recommend that good organisational skills are quintessential in making things work, but to really get things working in the midst of rabbles and rebels, you need something beyond organisational skills – what you need in essence is leadership skills. Leadership skills entail a lot – it soars far beyond personal skills, because it’s what will help you make some drastic decisions and take drastic actions where there is an urgent need to. The decisions don’t have to impress – in short, most often, they don’t really impress. Leadership decisions are vision-inclined; the blind don’t see it, and to the myopic, it is blurry – anything blurry to most vision impaired is as good as being non-existent. So, if it always has to please to design and make a future, the future may never come. Recently, in my closed-niche, I have made certain decisions that don’t jell with a…

How to stop living in fear Daring is not stupidity. It is not taking un-calculated risks. It is facing the bully face to face, and saying to him, ‘You can’t stop me.’ Many threatening situations have tried to stop me physically, mentally and spiritually. For years, I have feared many things, and for the fears, I have unjustly limited my ability to make a difference in my world. One big lesson I have learnt is that when fear can’t stop you physically, it goes into your dreams to cause you nightmares. The dangerous aspect of nightmares is that it plays with your mentality and emotions. Because anything that affects your mind affects your life, your health and physical well-being will begin to dwindle. Fear is the worst killer. Its armory is nightmare. Dare your fears. Dare your nightmares. I will repeat a story I told in one of my previous…

A few days ago, I was invited by the head of an organization to join him train a team of civil servants from the capital of Nigeria at Canary Wharf, London. Except I am inundated with very urgent appointments, I don’t like missing the opportunity to input leadership knowledge into people at the forefront of delivering change, so I accepted the invite. For two days, I delivered courses on Change Leadership, Personal Productivity, and Decision Making for Women Leaders. All through the programme, I kept emphasizing the undying need for a changed mentality if the civil service and Nigeria must compete with the developed world. It all went well, and I think everyone was happy. As I discussed my perceived outcome of the programme with my wife, four keywords slipped from my heart to my mouth and from my mouth to my wife. In a stepwise order, the last to…

Why were you born? What is the purpose of life? You must understand that living in your purpose is second to nothing. The telephone, when it was first designed was only able to make calls; then, the size was big, and the communication technology was analogue. As time went on, man began to think broader. Due to his creative imagination, he was able to include text messages on the phone. So, bit by bit, the analogue phone started developing into digital. At this stage, apart from making calls, man was able to write short notes on the phones and send them to their recipients. In addition, the sizes of phones began to shrink, until it became mobile; this gave birth to the mobile or cell phones. Man was glad to have been able to reduce big-size phones to miniature sizes. As technology began to improve, man again performed one super magic;…

Every success story is replicable. Every borrowed idea with the intent to honestly use produces the same result. Every beautiful edifice seen somewhere can be erected anywhere if there is the will and commitment to start and finish it. There is no impossibility where the heart to build is existent. Even if you can’t think, if you can see, you can become. There is hope for Africa, yes, there is. We go in phase, we passed through different phases. From huts, we moved to bricks, even if we were configured to remain in muds. I am not playing the blame game, but the many roads we walked were enough to get us stuck. Somehow, we wriggled out, and positioned ourselves where we are today. Today isn’t bleak, but it isn’t bright either. There are errors, there is self-centeredness, but in this very confusion, there are those with the mind to…

How to get your life back and begin to live again after feelings of despair and hopelessness You woke up this morning feeling dejected, forsaken and forgotten. As you stepped out of bed, you asked yourself, “Why did I ever wake up – I should have slept forever and ever, so I can forget this misery I found myself?” Life was like the oddest thing that ever happened to you. The breaking of every new dawn was your heartbreak because nothing on earth has been fair to you. In your imagination, heaven has shut its door against you – even hell refused to entertain you. The mischief of life has come down heavily on you. Every misfortune tends to find in you a dwelling place. You are shattered and knackered. All hopes seem to be lost. All dreams have become illusion. Your world has suddenly come to an end! As…

When people think distractions, they mostly feel that it takes a very bogus approach, but I have noticed from personal experiences that the worst distractions are the most subtle. The distractions that steal your essence of existence don’t come like hurricanes – they sneak into your life and cause you colossal damages, unrealized, until it’s probably too late. Until you come to that consciousness, and find more sensible ways of dealing with them, you won’t know when they’ve ruthlessly dealt with you. Distractions could be ephemeral in nature, but their sustained effects are long-lasting, especially when they tickle negatively the most sensitive parts of a man’s quality obligation – and to be candid, distractions massage the wrong parts of your anatomy. Distraction has been defined as a thing that prevents someone from concentrating on something else, a diversion or recreation, or an extreme agitation of the mind. Certain things with little or…

How to become somebody in life: ways to be successful in life The questions that people often ask themselves as they make decisions to leave their comfort zones and pursue their dearest dreams are enormous – who knows me, who would believe in me, who would choose nobody like me? There’s often this perception that except someone knows you, you can’t make headway, but that impression is a wrong conclusion. People always look up to something, thinking that seeing something makes them something – the only thing that makes you something is seeing your destination, and propelling yourself in the direction of your destined imagination. Christopher Columbus said, “By prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal or destination.” There will be obstacles; there always is – there will be distractions; there wouldn’t stop being, but your push against inconvenience and genuine excuses will drive…

What to do when you fail Your start may be shaky or wavy – don’t conclude that just because of that, you are doomed to fail in the end. In league games, you win some and lose some, but those who emerge champions don’t always win everything. Calling yourself a failure for a momentary setback doesn’t make you any better. You aren’t a genius for simply calling yourself an idiot and never-do-well. Self-pity and self-condemnation does not contribute to self-determination. So, what to do when you fail at everything is if you fail, take a short break to ponder why. Assess what went wrong. Look for how to make it right, and move on. Sitting to moan or mourn takes you out of contest and where you don’t contest you don’t emerge. You aren’t the only one that has failed – those ahead also did, and those behind will do…

I was excited to commence the recording of some video clips for our YouTube channel. Before then, I took some weeks to research on some top motivation video blogs in the world, and after that, I did same for the equipment and software needed to make the channel a success. It also cost me some thousands of dollars to make the purchases of the various stuffs that were required, as I wanted to make sure that the take off would be worth it. I was not worried about the soft ingredients for the channel – my concern was making sure that the final output in terms of technicality does not fall short of the minimum standard. After the purchases, getting conversant with how to use the hardware and software was another challenge as I am not a techy guy, even if I try, one way or the other to squeeze…

When it comes to taking rests, I must be swift to point out that I am not talking about laziness – the rests taken without work is laziness – the ones taken after concerted hard works is deserved. In my opinion, if you haven’t pushed yourself to your limit, rest shouldn’t be a priority – however, taking pockets of rests in-between a marathon job or assignment enables you to refuel for optimum productivity. Pushing yourself to your limit must not mean pushing yourself to death because in factuality, some people don’t know what their limits are, so they work until they die suddenly. A typical example is seen in a woman who, when she visited her General Practitioner, realized she had only one week to live – she didn’t know her limit, so didn’t realize when she sped pass it by a thousand miles. The knowledge came too late, and…

In 2013, I wrote an article titled, ‘How Repetition Enhances Intelligence.’ I am not a psychologist, but a personal development enthusiast who believes that nothing can become something if the right developmental steps are taken. I say this because I come from nothing but pushed myself to something, and if today, I become nothing, I won’t fret because I know how to become something. Let me point out that becoming something isn’t about how much you have, or your social status – it is about your inner beliefs, giving yourself a self-worth, and embracing the intent behind your design; in other words, your purpose of existence. Becoming something also, is about your ability to perceive, foresee, envision, and pursue passionately the pictures of the future, and making sure that that picture does not only end up as a frame on the walls of your mind, but becomes feasible and tangible. A…

Who is a problem solver? In simple terms, a problem solver is someone who solves problems. In a team, diverse organizations and corporate bodies, many people avoid problems by shying away when there is one, but problem solvers usually look for challenges, convert them to opportunities, and search for ways to deal with those impediments, to everyone’s advantage. Without a challenge, without a question to answer, and without a difficulty to confront, problem solvers don’t feel inspired. They love it when it’s tough, because that is the only factor that helps them exhibit their innate abilities. Mind you, there is a difference between those who create problems and those who solve them. Those who create problems are not literarily, trouble makers; they are those who synthesize problems in order to keep them busy so that superiors or other forms of observers will consider them to be very hardworking people. I…

When I am idle, I feel sick, with pains on most parts of my anatomy. When I am productively active, the expectation of achieving something worthwhile or making an impact releases healing hormones in my system, and I become unconsciously well and healthy. When I therefore meet those who love to sit in front of the television for hours each day, watching what hard working people produced, I get stunned with their ability to do so. I am not against watching TV, but I am completely against indolent people who make it their daily occupation. Television is useful for winding off after some serious hard work, but if you do nothing and plan doing nothing; sitting in front of that screen will become your slow killer. Although, one of the definitions of laziness is idleness or inactiveness, I believe that the laziest people aren’t idle or inactive; they are simply…

How do I define entrepreneurship? I wanted to look at the technical meanings as introduction to this very valuable subject, but I said to myself, no – no, because, entrepreneurship isn’t a theoretical concept – it is what the eyes see, what the hands feel, and what the tongues taste. If you can’t behold it, embrace it, and relate with it in physicality, it is nothing but an ideology lost in arbitrary world. For this conclusion, I made up my mind that the best definitions of entrepreneurship are the ones that emanate, not from the classroom, but from those that are one hundred percent in the game. How does Ray Kroc, the Founder of MacDonald see entrepreneurship? He said, “If you’re not a risk taker, you should get the hell out of business.” Scott Belsky, Behance’s Co-Founder, in putting it straight said, “It’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas…

A process isn’t usually instantaneous because it takes a window of time to develop a form or structure. Stage by stage, entities niche to develop a congregate that ends up in one mega function. As these functions operate, the human mind is glamoured by the creativities achieved by the brains around us. If brains were to be audited, and the various ways they perform recorded, we will be stunned by the level of artistry in our world. A process is best exemplified by gestation periods in reproduction. What begins with eggs and semen end up as full babies, and grow up to become full adults. Nothing jumps from egg to adult – there is a process, there is organization. It is organization that makes a dead seed in the soil sprout – if it isn’t organized, it will die in decadence and be forgotten in some hidden and unnoticed location under…

The importance of identifying a sustainable business idea, with a practical and realistic business plan to support it cannot be overemphasized, especially for a start-up company. Many government and private sector interventions aimed at encouraging young entrepreneurs to set up their own businesses are predicated mainly on a good business idea and a well written business plan with sufficient experience to defend it before a panel of ‘experts.’  But what do we see?  Only few applicants meet the shortlisting requirements and eventually get supported, while many others are frustrated and sometimes even doubt the integrity of the selection process. Consequently, the number that benefit from support programmes are not enough to make the desired impact in the economy.  I can tell you that many business plans are written and submitted to banks and other funding agencies on a regular basis, solicited and unsolicited. These plans, according to their authors, are…

What a scary title, or maybe funny, and probably stupid. Whatever you tag it, you may, in all likelihood be right, because anyone in his sane mind wouldn’t wake up one morning to decide coming up with some bogus, senseless article title. But if you patently want to know the truth, happiness actually commits suicide. Valerie Bertinelli writes, “Happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy. There’s going to be stress in life, but it’s your choice whether you let it affect you or not.” Many people let it affect them, and because they do, they cause themselves great harm. Some harm are suicidal – suicide isn’t only the termination of life, but what is life if happiness is absent? Some people are unhappy but don’t even know why they are. If you ask them why, they surprisingly can’t tell you – all they know is that they’re unhappy. And the…

The spirit belongs to God – the mind belongs to man. What we do with what belongs to us affects our decisions, and our decisions affect our actions – our actions are the denouement of our entire life. Those many mornings when we wake up, and something we can’t decipher irritates our minds, and for the arbitrary, we grimace, and sometimes scream. And also, for the innocent children in the house that try to cheer our day up, we make victims of the state of our minds, as their good morning to us make us even more irritant – it’s just our state of mind; the very way we feel even if we can’t really place it. In the poem, Apply Within, Suzy Kassem wrote, “You once told me you wanted to save the world from all its wars – and I told you to first save yourself from the…

These days, competition is rife amongst a large number of brands. Many homemade brands find it difficult to withstand foreign ones for so many reasons, and for these legion of reasons, local brands are knocked off most of our shelves. As we rely on imports to service our insatiable needs, there is depletion of our currencies and probably, foreign reserves, because we spend the hard currencies filling our shops with what we can produce within, or already producing within. The hunger for foreign goods and the abandonment of local brands further damage our economies and put it in epileptic predicaments. As we tread on this ignorant route, we continuously blame the government for not performing magic in revamping our economies, when in reality; we are prisoners by our own device. There is a perception rumbling in the minds of the citizenries that local brands are inferior to foreign ones, and…

Recently, I decided to set up a home digital studio for typical audio and video podcasts. Previously, I would go round asking people I perceived should know what to do – sometimes, I even asked those who had little or no clue about what I needed. After making lots of unnecessary purchases, I realized that the major way to get information was by going through the reviews of people that have bought and used the products. To determine what to use for my podcasts, I first did research by reading what techy bloggers suggested – I also listened to audio podcasts and watched loads of YouTube videos. After determining the equipment required for my studio, I noticed that for each equipment, there are lots of brands. The next problem was which brands do I buy. In addition to various brands, it occurred to me that even in specific brands, there…

In business school, one of the modules I enjoyed so much was entrepreneurial strategy, and until then, I thought entrepreneurship was merely people who started their own businesses, but through it, I realized that it goes beyond that, and that it also involves corporate entrepreneurship known as intrapreneurship; launching a new business within a company you work for. It’s from the coinage, “intrapreneurship” that I came up with “pushnovation,” taken from “push” and “innovation.” 2020 had been a dilemma and a year so unworthy of nostalgia. Like so many people, I wish it would be wiped off history, with the indelible assumption that it never existed, but unfortunately, that’s mere wishful thinking; it’ll stay with us forever, a year that no one wants to remember. Although 2020 needed lots of inoculation and it appeared like there was nothing good in it, but to those who made good plans and planted…

If the world was to rely on many people, we would still be in stone ages – we wouldn’t have the television, telephones, internet technology, social media, automobiles, all the healthcare facilities that make life far more comfortable. Why? Because they question nothing, probe nothing – they only conform to the status quo – they line up behind propriety, and reprimand everyone who asks questions, or probes things to find out what they are, why they are, and how they are. When I see biologists go under water to look into the beautiful world that exists therein, I realise that if everyone had feared drowning, we wouldn’t have been privileged to witness that other geography that adds glamour to creativity. When I fly, I cogitate on how a massive weight in airplanes balances itself in another world up there and runs at speeds beyond the reflexes of the blinking of…

A couple of days ago, I watched a documentary on “Fela Kuti: the Father of Afrobeat” on BBC2, and it was very inspiring. I felt so emotional because of the roles Fela played in helping to emancipate humanity from mental slavery, and how he fought the corrupt system to the detriment of his own life and that of his entire family; he made himself vulnerable to the draconian governments of his time and was ready to become the sacrifice for his people. Unfortunately, most of the people he fought for never saw the light, and till date, haven’t seen it. I am one person who has continuously believed that the Afrobeat creator and legend was a prophet because all he wrote and said in his lyrics are even far more relevant today. Police brutality, dictatorship, massive corruption in the polity surpass unimaginable boundaries, exceeding what made Fela gasp for breath,…

It was December 2019 And the sun made us remember We looked at the number And were thankful for all that hunger What we didn’t see was the anger We thought it would only be China Smiling away like we were unreachable from its hammer Until the storm came with thunder We locked ourselves in our corners Believing that when we hide under our warmers It’ll bolt away like a runner But it came back like a toddler Who forgot its toy on our sofa The counts are getting higher Each day, a home loses a number Because someone goes into eternal slumber But the rulers are gamblers Selfishness is their charmer On the screens they are liars They guide us to the slaughterer Still saying they’re our carers

One crisis that must be dealt with to set free the African black from the shackles of self-enslavement is SUPERSTITION. Superstition has been defined in various ways by dictionaries; “a belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge, in or of the ominous significance of a particular thing, circumstance, occurrence, proceeding, or the like;” “a custom or act based on such beliefs;” “irrational fear of what is unknown or mysterious, especially  in connection with religion;” and the most pathetic for me, “many blindly accepted belief or notion.” Whatever definition it is, superstition stops us from questioning, enquiring and investigating to know the reason for a thing. The sad reality is that anyone who crosses the red lines of superstition or questions its veracity is stigmatized or inundated with words of fears of the menacing consequences that loom. We’re told a certain location is an evil forest and that no one…

It’s true that Nigeria’s democracy is styled in the designs of military dictatorships. During the #EndSARS protests, as the leaders were inundated with a barrage of resistance, they pleaded with the protesters to down tools and come to the negotiation table. Same time, they called in their foot soldiers; those they use to snatch ballot boxes and rig elections; the thugs, to cause mayhem, burn and loot property, to discredit the peaceful agitation. That tactic didn’t work as there was a made-up mind on the part of the youths to bring an overdue social revolution to fruition. At this point, it became apparent that the devices of the oppressors weren’t working, so they brought in their killer squad; the military and the same SARS that was “banned.” They killed. They maimed. They stole the corpses of the deceased. They denied. They crisscrossed blames. But one thing remained standing; they’re all…

Show me a nation that was colonised, as in “colonised” that ended up developed, in its true definition. This is because slavery and colonialism don’t only focus on material gains; they work to impoverish the mentality of their subjects also. The impoverishment isn’t targeted on short term effects only, but designed for eternal sustenance. That’s why hundreds of years after “freedom,” you aren’t actually free because in your head, you’re inferior, and for this, you under-develop your homeland because it will “never” be as good as those of your captors, even if in the real sense, it’s far better. It takes education of the mind to break off slavery and colonial mentality. Many African leaders are suffering from this horrible epidemic. I always thought it was just our leaders, until Trump came into the scene. Faraway in unknown places in Africa, the sounds of the drums of his supporters reverberate.…

How to Stop Assuming and Start Making Good Business Decisions Within the Black Community Just a couple of days ago, I took my wife to the train station on her way for an appointment, and on returning, I was stopped by the traffic lights. As one usually does, I scanned round the environment with my eyes, and saw an African restaurant called “Mauritanian Delight.” I didn’t need being told that it’s mainly for Mauritanians. And I said to myself, “A recipe for disaster!” Why? The business wouldn’t break even, let alone make profits; it was so easy to know. I know someone would say “I reject it in Jesus name,” but no matter how good your intentions are, your start-up must be data-driven so that you can make informed decisions, otherwise, you’re doomed. I concluded that the business was in a wrong location, and that the niche was too…

How Nigeria’s Upper Chamber Frustrated the Constitutional Amendments Concerned and patriotic Nigerians have for a very long time demanded a constitutional review and amendment based on the conviction that not only are a huge part of our constitutional provisions unrealistic, obsolete, and not workable in this age and time, they are also a part of the problem rather than the solution. Technology and social media have helped amplify our voices and calls for constitutional review loud enough for it to be heard and considered, which could be the catalyst for the recent call for proposals by the Senate ad-hoc committee on constitutional review. Running a working and functional society is a continuous and recurrent one, this also applies to the constitution that governs it. As time goes by, population multiplies, people grow, their problems, challenges, beliefs, priorities and needs also evolve with them. This is the reason why reviewing the…

What Parents Can Do To Balance The Unequal Opportunity Race It’s not a secret that the black child has been disadvantaged in the opportunity race for quality education. From Africa to every continent or country with black people, far less education opportunities have been given to black children through underfunding, lack of infrastructures and a deliberate effort to ill-inform them on what the true challenges are beyond mere school curriculum. The Telegraph of 6 June 2018 explains clearly that most black kids in the UK leave primary school with good grades, but while in secondary, they aren’t positioned in such a way to make it into Oxford, Cambridge or other top universities. The demand of these top universities are “the highest grades at A-Level, the ability to pass an interview, and the stamina to take on the tutorial system,” says the Telegraph. It further says that “there is little evidence…

Strip me of this accursed Black skin – I want to live in peace! I watched this video with emotions I can’t describe. But, America why? England, why? I watched this fully aware that I am Black, living in a White world. I am Black, in a White college. I am Black, in a White country. I am Black – and to many I am wrong! For this, I cannot breathe. For how long will this injustice prevail? Slavery, oppression, repression, murder… genocide. Does God ever curse the oppressors of His people? Or, does He simply look away? If this is the God of the Exodus, isn’t it time he drowns Pharaoh? Isn’t it time he destroys Pharaoh’s army of brutal oppressors? If only for a moment, to allow me to take the breath of life. But, nay – this white-washed, Blue-eyed Jesus appears to side with the oppressors –…
