GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES

What  does it mean to go above and beyond?

Sometime in the past, I admired people who could do certain things, especially in exhibiting keenness, skills and talent. I always thought that people who showed excellence in what they did were extraordinary people or super humans. Because of that, in my heart, I would worship them and enthrone them like deities for being more than humans. But when I began to understand life better, I realised that ordinary people who make up their minds to focus on their little talents, skills or even ideas with the totality of their hearts are those who stand out. It doesn’t matter where you were born. It doesn’t matter what colour of skin you reflect. It doesn’t matter what accent you speak with. If you decide with all determination to push yourself out of the ghetto, out of obscurity, out of the bottom of life, out of ignorance and weakness, you can become anything you want to be, do anything you want to do, and reach any height you want to reach. You must look beyond your position. You must look beyond your background. You must look beyond your educational status or the grade you made in school. You must look beyond the current job you do or the amount of money in your pocket, and embrace your destiny. Look inward. See your very self. Shine that candle light within – that very little gift. As you shine it, it will get brighter, spread wider and become better. So don’t lose your spark. Don’t submit to defeat. Don’t get despondent.
You’ll be crushed and beaten to powder. Your bits will be blown like wasted vapours into the invisible atmosphere. Whatever is left of you will be trampled like abandoned seeds forsaken, even by the starving birds. The floods will attempt to sweep you off your feet. The storms will dare. But as gold, you’ll survive. You won’t just survive, you’ll succeed. So don’t let the now stop your wow!
The world is looking for ordinary people who do their little simple things in very orderly ways. Stop the imagination of a super hero, be ordinary but orderly. What makes a bee is not its ability to sting, but its propensity to produce honey. Never let your weakness define you, but rather, let your sweetness do. Increase your probability to win by throwing your weight where anything can happen. Stop stooping cheap. Fly like an eagle!
You may look ordinary but what lies within you, if allowed to blossom, will make you a person of influence. The stage wasn’t built for peculiar people – it was made for everyday people. So don’t think being an everyday person means you can’t reach the summit. Keep believing in your innate potentials – don’t just believe it, work towards becoming it. One day, you’ll be what you saw inside your being.
