A few days ago, I was invited by the head of an organization to join him train a team of civil servants from the capital of Nigeria at Canary Wharf, London. Except I am inundated with very urgent appointments, I don’t like missing the opportunity to input leadership knowledge into people at the forefront of delivering change, so I accepted the invite. For two days, I delivered courses on Change Leadership, Personal Productivity, and Decision Making for Women Leaders. All through the programme, I kept emphasizing the undying need for a changed mentality if the civil service and Nigeria must compete with the developed world. It all went well, and I think everyone was happy. As I discussed my perceived outcome of the programme with my wife, four keywords slipped from my heart to my mouth and from my mouth to my wife. In a stepwise order, the last to…

Welcome to 2017. The year has started rolling, and the days have started counting. Whatever you plan for the year, you must start now, or you may never start. I believe in NOW – it has always been my philosophy; and with that, I defeat procrastination. As you run through your plans and envision your expectations, you must recognize that you aren’t the only one that’ll walk through the 2017 road; there are lots of people with diverse aspirations, inspirations and intentions. They too want to make progress. They too want to succeed. They too want to cut their own share of the cake as we celebrate the end of this year come December. Knowing who walks on your road, knowing who runs on same lane with you, and knowing who steps on same track with you is quintessential as you marathon through the twelve months ahead of you. It…

Everyday, I meet people. Everyday, I interact with my world and the world at large. The social media and most modern software and applications have made it easier to engage the world. As we engage the world, our strengths and weaknesses are observed. Our skills are also being noticed. Even our deficiencies in terms of what we consider as our main skills are bare to the dynamic world. So we should be watchful how we manage our talents in an age where the remotest error can be revealed by millions of people globally within seconds. During the funeral ceremony of Nelson Mandela, it didn’t take hours before most people in the universe noticed that the sign language interpreter was gibberish – his interpretation was simply balderdash because he was doing nothing close to sign language act. When Beyonce did lip-synching during Barack Obama’s inauguration as she sang along a pre-recorded track of the national…

There  is no motivation, independent of its strength and its power to superbly persuade, that you’ve never heard. One way or the other, it’s been said to you, or spoken using different channels or rhetoric. And nothing will be spoken tomorrow and beyond that you’ve never also heard. The difference between where you are and where you feel you should be is action. Every chain will lock your feet. Every wall will stand in your way. Every sea will spring from beneath to stop you, but what impediments don’t have the power to do is to determine your doggedness to beat the odds. Your success is your resolve. It will never be easy, has never been and must never be. Champions emerge by overcoming the impossible. So stop wailing behind the high walls – step into the cold and show you have the effrontery to challenge the bests. No fidgeting…

Money on its own isn’t success; what makes it success is its ability to give you access into many things you need. You can be wealthy without money if you have all you need without liquidity. An asset worth two million dollars is stronger than a million dollar liquidity.  You see, all that is required to make your dream come through is to see your need met. A need is what is required to give your vision the power to engineer itself into tangibility. Money therefore, guards your vision on three fronts; when there is the need for precaution, when there is speculation,  and also, when transaction is imminent. Network is access, and therefore, a huge success if you find the ultimate door that directs you to where people can propel your dream to the front page. Some people don’t make headlines, but they put people on the headlines. If…

For years I have observed successful people; dead or alive. I have looked at what made them reach the summit, and have noticed that it is the same set of principles. For years, I have also observed talented people to see what made some succeed and others fail, and have realized that it follows the same trail to succeed and another lane of trail to fail or remain a mediocre person. In summary, vision and character define your destination. As a social media enthusiast, I see daily, great talents on different platforms, and I also see those in misplaced locations, and not too long, they get displaced because they have no reason standing where they don’t have the talent or skills. What makes a hit determines some people’s entrant into certain fields, professions, or directions even if they have no clue about what it entails. They jump in and after…

As a child who lived in Africa, I used to see ants move in a straight line, with each carrying a crumb of food. I always wondered how possible it was for insects with less developed brains to act in such orderly manner. Many a time, I would stand and watch them for a long time. Sometimes, I even tried distorting their movements. For a while, they would disconnect, but after a few minutes, they would find their routes back, and continue with their unique orderly movement. As I grew up, that thought of this special creature never left my mind. My curiosity drove me into finding out the science behind this unusual singleness of purpose. So, I searched and read until it came to my awareness why ants move in a straight line. Not only did I find out the chemistry behind this exclusiveness but also went ahead to…

The word ‘Success’ scare a lot of people because, their definition is centred on some misconstrued and misguided interpretations. Most people’s mental figuration of success is pecuniary in nature, and for some, it is either in the hub of fame or power. Due to this misconception, many people that have succeeded in various areas of life, career, business, or education do not celebrate themselves because they do not consider their so called infinitesimal achievement as success. I know a man that had terminal cancer. To him, if he was given $1B as a gift, it wouldn’t be success. Success to him is the ability to beat cancer. Do you know what? He succeeded, because he actually beat cancer. There is another man I know. He was a stack illiterate person. He had nine children, and his desire was to give at least half of them, quality University education. Out of…

The sharpness of a knife determines how deep it can cut. If it is dull, it won’t cut deep; if it is sharp, it produces depth. Knowledge, skills, and decision-making processes determine the level of success. Their sharpness or dullness determines the depth of success. For knowledge to stand out, it must be sharpened regularly. Skills are sharpened by repetition; the more you do a job, the more you know how to do it. Excellence in skill is achieved by continually following the procedure of work, until you’re able to unconsciously perform the task with ease. Decision-making is sharpened by strategic and tactical thinking. To achieve success in your pursuit, sharpen your cutting edge. Sharpness determines your depth! Anything that will take you far is not found on the surfaces of life. The surface is where everyone occupies; it does not possess anything that will distinguish a man. The distinguishing…

A couple of days ago, I watched a short documentary on the bald eagle. I was so amazed about how keen the eagle is. I have heard so much about the focus of the eagle, but have never really taken the time to ruminate on its keenness. As I pondered on it, I started comparing the keenness of the eagle with the skills of man. My conclusion was that if man possesses the mentality of the eagle, his skills will be better, deeper and more productive. What is a skill? Skill involves ability, knowledge, practice and aptitude. It also involves competent excellence in performance, expertness and dexterity. The more man digs into knowledge, the more he becomes skilful in his chosen endeavour. But the challenge for man is that most people prefer to remain at the periphery of wisdom, and as a result, their level of knowledge becomes obsolete, dated…
