The term ‘template leadership’ is my own connotation, and I came to that conclusion based on my different direct observations of people in leadership positions, what I have read in newspapers and magazines, and seen or heard on broadcast media, or trends on social media. Wherever I have noticed template leadership, it just follows the same pattern independent of where you find it, who applies it, or who designs it. To understand fully what I mean by template leadership, I would first explain what template is. I got this definition from TechTarget website, and it says, ‘A template is a form, mould, or pattern used as a guide to making something, and examples are ruler when used to draw a straight line, a document in which the standard opening and closing parts are already filled that you can copy and then fill in the variable parts, etc.’ In other words,…

Usually, I recommend that good organisational skills are quintessential in making things work, but to really get things working in the midst of rabbles and rebels, you need something beyond organisational skills – what you need in essence is leadership skills. Leadership skills entail a lot – it soars far beyond personal skills, because it’s what will help you make some drastic decisions and take drastic actions where there is an urgent need to. The decisions don’t have to impress – in short, most often, they don’t really impress. Leadership decisions are vision-inclined; the blind don’t see it, and to the myopic, it is blurry – anything blurry to most vision impaired is as good as being non-existent. So, if it always has to please to design and make a future, the future may never come. Recently, in my closed-niche, I have made certain decisions that don’t jell with a…

The spirit belongs to God – the mind belongs to man. What we do with what belongs to us affects our decisions, and our decisions affect our actions – our actions are the denouement of our entire life. Those many mornings when we wake up, and something we can’t decipher irritates our minds, and for the arbitrary, we grimace, and sometimes scream. And also, for the innocent children in the house that try to cheer our day up, we make victims of the state of our minds, as their good morning to us make us even more irritant – it’s just our state of mind; the very way we feel even if we can’t really place it. In the poem, Apply Within, Suzy Kassem wrote, “You once told me you wanted to save the world from all its wars – and I told you to first save yourself from the…

Welcome to 2017. The year has started rolling, and the days have started counting. Whatever you plan for the year, you must start now, or you may never start. I believe in NOW – it has always been my philosophy; and with that, I defeat procrastination. As you run through your plans and envision your expectations, you must recognize that you aren’t the only one that’ll walk through the 2017 road; there are lots of people with diverse aspirations, inspirations and intentions. They too want to make progress. They too want to succeed. They too want to cut their own share of the cake as we celebrate the end of this year come December. Knowing who walks on your road, knowing who runs on same lane with you, and knowing who steps on same track with you is quintessential as you marathon through the twelve months ahead of you. It…

When I was younger, I wanted to be a recording artist, and so wrote numerous songs – I even did a demo in a musical studio. A refrain in one of my songs was, “life itself is a teacher. Your experiences will be your guide.” In my youthfulness, I wrote certain lyrics, not knowing the very depth of what I said, but today, I am beginning to understand better. In the past 12 weeks or so, I have learned twists and shifts, breaks and brakes, and parallels and inexplicable true life dramas. I have also learned to be more accommodating in terms of taking the heats and hits, without daring an eye for an eye. One massive strength I have added to my little pouch is to laugh when I should be crying. It has dawn on me that the laughter of a hurt man is crazy – you wouldn’t know…

As a leader, sometimes, you are bound to talk a lot. Many things will make you talk; the good, the bad, and the ugly. The things that make you fume most are the ugly. When you fume, your anger rages to the high heavens. And if there’s anything a leader has in abundance, it is anger. Some people tell you never to get angry. Those who say it are the most angry people on earth because they pretend that they’re never angry. They bottle up a lot of things until one day, they explode. If they don’t explode, they harbor loads of rubbish in their minds until they begin to hate, unknown to the recipients of their hatred. Hatred can be murderous sometimes. I don’t think y0u would like to go that way! The best way to live is to exhale. When you exhale, some people will consider you to…

As someone interested in seeing African businesses rise beyond the epileptic level that it is today, and realizing that one major reason the status quo has been sustained is because of energy crisis, I think analyzing and coming up with credible suggestions will go a long way in proffering practicable solutions. My suggestions aren’t based on being an expert, but as an end user. Having tasted two worlds; Africa and Europe, I have come to see the junction of deviation where our leaders have made ideological and policy errors. And for these errors, we remain stuck to muddling and self-induced predicaments which have invariably hampered our developments.  It is wrong to assume that corruption is Africa’s major problem, because ignorance in actuality takes the topmost position among a plethora of issues inundating us. When a government with the right intention doesn’t know what to do because of lack of vision,…

I usually don’t care about status; my major interest is in satisfying my inner crave, and that crave is my passion to inspire for good. Most people who are genuinely celebrated today, did not set out to be celebrated. They simply went out to do what they love most, or meet a need they consider pertinent, and from doing what they do, the world appreciate and celebrate them. That is why I believe that fame isn’t as a result of your ability to tweak, weave or twist. Those with real and genuine talents, and the desire to truly meet the needs of humanity hardly tweak or twist. They don’t need spin doctors or PR gurus to help them gain some fast-forwarded publicities; they just enjoy what they do, even if it doesn’t bring publicity or financial rewards. When Leymah Roberta Gbowee formed the women’s peace movement, “Women of Liberia Mass…

At certain points in life, those with hearts that can reflect look back. The crave to achieve so much is at stake for hasty people but those who are thankful and appreciative of where they are in spite of where they want to get to gratefully look back. As you reflect soberly, there are milestones that can never be forgotten, because those unprintable but memorable spots define where you currently are. Where you are may not really be where your mental picture perceives, but at least, it is obvious that you are in the right direction, making progress, and being self motivated to keep your progress going undermining the potholes, sink holes and bumps that act as barriers to your movement. Some people may not want to embark on historical journeys because they are deeply chagrined by the chasm between their current state and what they consider to be illusion…

To the mentally strong, failure is an inspiration. To the one who desires to aspire, rejection is a positive turning point. Getting to the edge of precipice and rescuing yourself from drowning could be a motivational factor that gives you a clearer vision to see the ladder that had always been there, and helps you decide that it’s time to start climbing. Candidly speaking, the world and its environs are full of ladders; weak minds only see the pits. The pit is the first to attract because descending is easier to attain than ascending. You don’t need an effort to go down; you need all the energies including the ones you may not have to go up. Improper management that wrecks a growing business requires zero efforts; cutting edge strategies, planning and implementation need broad and titanic efforts to help the advancement of business, career, education or holistic endeavors. There…
